Oppressive Heat - Water Bottles for Vulnerable Persons

Oppressive heat can be a severe risk factor for some individuals, particularly the elderly, persons suffering from chronic diseases, persons with mental health problems, and drug and alcohol addicts. These persons are at greatest risk of suffering from the health effects of oppressive heat, even more so if they are living alone.

The Vitæ Foundation has helped the homelessness task force team of the CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS, CSSS-IUGS site, to deliver no less than 100 reusable water bottles to its client groups to help them prevent the discomfort and health risks associated with oppressive heat.

Three simple rules are labelled on the water bottles:

  1. Drink water.
  2. Stay cool.
  3. Reduce your exertion.

This awareness-raising activity was held at Chaudronnée de l’Estrie and at the Journal de Rue de Sherbrooke as well as within the community and during appointments with the clientele.
